Florida Roof Insurance Claims: What to Document First
Keep a clear record of damage, temporary protection, estimates, and insurer communications after a storm.
Record the loss safely
Take dated photos and video of visible damage and any water intrusion without climbing onto a damaged roof. Note when you first noticed the problem and protect personal property where it is safe to do so.
Keep your paperwork together
Save the policy declarations page, claim number, adjuster contact details, inspection reports, written estimates, correspondence, and receipts for temporary protection. Ask your insurer how and when to submit materials; deadlines and deductibles depend on your policy and the event.
Understand the scope
Your contractor can document the roof condition and explain the proposed repair scope. Only your insurer determines coverage and payment. Review any settlement and deductible with your insurer before authorizing permanent work.
